It could have been a better game if it didn't make the same mistakes as Diablo 3. You might say, "What the hell are you talking about? D4 tried to improve or change on a lot of the aspects that were heavily criticized in D3". Sure, it did, and now we have four Diablo games (not counting the mobile abomination) that look like completely different games. The whole franchise suffers from an identity crisis, and that's the problem. And i don't understand why? Why is it so hard for Blizzard to look at the one game in the series that is universally beloved and build upon that? Is it that hard to have a game with the same core gameplay, stats, runes, skills, synergies, randomization, affixes, and so on... maybe with a little twist on them and with better balance? Diablo 3 and 4 should have been what Diablo 2 Resurrected is, but with different campaigns, characters and new classes and skills on top of the already existing ones. The items and runewords should have remained the same but rebalanced and tweaked to make them fresh, and also add new uniques and runewords to go with them.
What will happen now, when Path of Exile 2 comes out, it will take over the ARPG scene. Blizzard made the best possible gift Grinding Gear Games could have hoped for, and i have a suspicion they could have release PoE2 already, but they decided to wait for Blizzard to release D3, because they knew the game will be criticized... and by that i don't mean "to fail", i know D4 is making a lot of sales and money. The point is, when the hype for it dies, which already seems to be the case, everyone will be looking for that PoE2 release.
Meanwhile, i'll be going back to Titan Quest, which is the best and most underrated ARPG ever made. People have been waiting for that next game that can hold up to D2, not realizing that it already exists for 17 years. Or in the words of this Greek legend:

titan quest is a clean 10/10, not just for its time, but even now

i mean yeah if you want pvp you will go to d2, but other than that, it has it all. its extremely catchy, unique, and even moddable. sound is cute af and graphics holds out even today imo. the same studio recently made a game called grim dawn, which although at least 9/10 in my book, doesnt exactly manage to capture the atmosphere tq did, and thats what matters the most to me

the fact that im eastern european and everything on my computer (including the computer itself) is bootleg, and even i have an actual legal copy of tq (more than one i might add) should tell you enough

actually i should replay titan quest
