awww they just couldnt catch a break :( heard cyberpunk is now taking the same route, fixing and all!

Ya it goes to show you the lengths competent devs are willing to go to if they believe in their product. Both games have good endings.

Not to continue the back and forth. But for the overwhelming number of people that bought and played d2, it probably had the same longevity as most ARPG's have throughout time. Played for a week or two then moved on to something else.

Just because a few of us autistic weirdos took it to a whole other level doesn't mean that every game in the diablo franchise should or even could. I do believe Blizzard will take what they have and continue to make improvements. Just like they did with d3, even if they went in the opposite direction the autistics wanted in that title.

This is one of the best explanations I've heard .

Highly disagree also lol I remember all of my friends played diablo 2 everyday pretty much when it was in vanilla states and first ladders of LOD. game was extremely active and majority of players I met in game played for months/years..

It's almost like the people you knew and played together with were d2 players. I had a lot of friends who played a ton as well. Guess what. There were some that were done playing within a few weeks, others that stuck around a few months. Some a few years. And one I still played with in 2005+.

What percentage of people do you think bought d2 and beat the game in NORMAL? I'm guessing the actual number would astonish you. Not that I have those numbers.

You have any context to this? Or just pretending to know what you’re talking about diablo 2 alive 20 years after release diablo 4 will be dead within 2 years… the game has been out a week and majority of players hate the game already.

Most people that quit came back over and over. Where most games if I quit I never returned

We were also children / early teens in a time when video game development was pumping out vastly new things but not at such a frequent rate meaning you stuck with games longer. Its also why we have such fond memories, every game from our childhood was amazing as far as I can recall, but thats the rose tinted glasses.

I can return to any of my childhood classics easily because of that connection. Classic WoW, Diablo, the Warcraft RTS franchise, Age of Empires, etc. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

Look at any game on steam. Even ones that you think are great. And see that a sizeable portion of people don't get beyond a few hours of playing, if even that. You can play almost any title, and get an achievement that takes a few hours or days to get and suddenly you've played more than half the people who bought the game. It's just a fact that no game including ones who absolutely have crazy mass followings can hook most people for any real amount of time.

D2 was fucking incredible. Duh. But let's not pretend that it was unanimous. That every single player that picked up the game was hooked for years, or even months.

Just because you didn't like it, doesn't mean d3 wasn't massively improved with a community that still plays to this day. You are not the arbiter of fun for other people.

If they had kept no changes upon release, the game would have 100% died completely.

hogwash. they removed trading, fck'd up inferno, added primal ancient ancient bs, removed good rares, etc. if they would have left the rmah or at least some kind of trading i'd argue it'd still pretty popular today. this has nothing to do with me not liking it, when you strip trading and ruin itemization, you're degrading the arpg experience and objectively making it a worse game.

that's the worst explanation about d3 i've ever read. they didn't improve d3 at all, they killed that game off, that's the opposite of continual "improvements"

I can agree with this statement but also diablo 4 brings NOTHING new to the genre at all. It’s extremely stale, would diablo 2 be the game it was if released today hell no. Gaming has evolved but at its time it was incredible. Look at super Mario what end game was there however one of the most iconic games in history however for its time it was one of the best arguably… diablo 4 on the other hand is a mid game at best. With good cinematics and a lot of overhype.

Also classic wow (back then) and age of empires and diablo 2 are still replayable not because of nostalgia they were good games… I am in no hurry to play pong on Atari let me tell you

Saying actual good games from earlier generations of gaming is purely nostalgia seems a little off every generation had a few really good games that they are replayable still to today
