It sounds like you're struggling to find the right groove in Diablo 4, especially given your long history with Diablo 2 and hardcore modes. Your experience seems a bit disjointed, where you enjoy parts of Diablo 4 but find yourself getting bored quickly. Let's try to tackle this from different angles to help you get more fun out of the game.

this was a good read. Thank you chatGPT for your service, j/k I knew it was genuine and i didn't for a second think A.i wrote this.
'
I did switch to hardcore but I'm still feeling the lack but i think this always happens during PTR because I can figure out where the crowd is... I do not think the hardcore crowd is in the PTR so I'm in sort of a pickle right now for playing.

i think I can just play Lightning ball sorc because I went back to sorc and this is my favorite and this is why I like the game.. Because of the sorceress... I always forget this when I play another toon..

Sorceress is my go to and I need to find those new unique items so I can build accordingly...

Hello guys. Ok i spent $120 on Diablo 4 and expansion.

Do I regret it? well I have spent more than that on diablo items so I'm not sure How I feel.

The question is...

WHat do i do In diablo 4?

I have no idea what to do ..

The PTR... do I make a new char? do I use my old toon?

The patch notes added some skills like Dance of Knives for rogue (which is fun) but it still is underwhelming game..

This party finder thing is amazing but I still feel like I get bored SO fast in diablo 4.

I will love it for like 30 minutes than Just get extremely bored...

I play hardcore d2r so maybe because I'm playing softcore on diablo 4 is that whats boringme?

Can some1 tell me what to do to have FUN in the game... not just GRIND but have fun?

like give me a blueprint to have fun when I have a day off from work I want to play diablo 2 or diablo 4 but I just cant get a grip on what to do...

I play diablo 2 but I made 10 lvl 99's
I play diablo 4 but I get bored after 30 mins of helltide because I do not know what else to do and basically you can use all your skills after 1 hour (not complaining)

they slowed the pace down for Diablo 4 but I did not think it needed to be slowed down...

i do NOT LIKE POE because its just doing maps constantly over and over again.. but I love doing CS on diablo 2.... so its not the repetivieness that gets me its something else...

I love doing chaos... but baal .. not so much..

I just love the pace for cs...

but once i Hit lvl 93-94... i retire... then I make a new toon or play diablo 4 for 30 mins then take a nap...

any suggestion?

i agree it can get quite boring fast and thats cuz they let u lvl up to 100 in like 5hrs or something. it was even more boring before S4. in S4 they made helltides alot more fun and in S5 hordes is even more fun and u can gain tons of MW mats so its not as bad as in S4 w/pits.
biggest problems i have with the game: i dont like the map, its just a big circular blob of land mass, its all there in front of u but i dont give 2 shits about it. its not interesting, not mysterious at all knowing where everything is. i mean it does all LOOK cool, gfx are amazing, but it just feels soulless/meaningless. i mean at least in the beginning when u first get the game and explore all regions its pretty awesome and interesting but once u do its really dull and theres NO MORE fog of war ever again moving forward. i complained and wish there wud at least be checkbox at char creation screen like when it asks if u wanna skip campaign, show fog of war or not.
also monsters just scattered around acting like wutever. i mean cmon, demons shudnt be just chilling waiting for u to approach them. they shud be raining hell fire on all the towns all the time, make it real hell not just helltide. its way too ez and pussified imo. it lacks a darkness too it. forget light radius like in d2 and some actual atmosphere. and the dumbest thing i noticed at the start last year, u can approach mobs, they will attack u, but once u get on ur mount they ALLLL run back to their initial spawn position like a bunch of bitches! wtf?? demons scared of a horse now? they cant attack u? so stupid. very unrealistic. even funnier if it was some slow ass skeleton that was trying to approach u and once u click mount button he runs fast as hell back to his spawn position LOL

d2 had 5 acts and they felt worlds apart from one another. there was no world map but it didnt matter, i preferred that actually. travelling with just waypoints felt like taking a tp/time machine to get to the other locations.
the monsters were more interesting also

d4 feels a bit more like some arcade game version of diablo. it can still be fun in some areas like hordes, but it just doesnt give off the diablo vibe that d1/d2 gave. not to mention theres no diablo in the game i mean thats a big problem, i dont fuking care about him being released in some expansion 2 yrs from now, who fuking cares. and the bosses they already have like duriel andariel.. idk, it felt like they just put them there but wuts their story? andariel in d2 was the main boss at the end of act 1, she had some meaning, wut fuking meaning do any of these bosses have in d4? and u gotta use mats to summon them?? they cant just fall from the sky in Kyovashad or something and fuk u up?? like cmon man, no realism... no threat. game was made for bitches by bitches :baby:

that aside its alright but still lacks all this and more to give it depth. i dont think that depth will ever come tho imo..

Think you or maybe myself too, gotta wait a few more seasons of d4 for dev to release a bit more diversity in uniques or runes or legendary or whatever they’re cooking in order to feel similar to d2. For now, there’re not a lot of uniques to hope for and they’re kind of easy to get too. I mean shako for 80% build is quite linear to me. At least back in d2, it took me forever to loot a griffon.

1. Switch to Hardcore Mode in Diablo 4
If you're used to the thrill and challenge of hardcore Diablo 2, playing Diablo 4 on softcore may be what's dulling the experience for you. Hardcore characters add a layer of tension and excitement—every battle feels meaningful because one mistake could end your run. You might find the game much more engaging if you add that high-stakes element back in.

2. Experiment with Different Builds
It sounds like you're aware of some new skills, like Dance of Knives for Rogue, but you might not have found the right build that clicks. Try diving deep into some community guides or theorycrafting to create a build that excites you. Experimenting with builds, especially with synergies and items, can add a lot of fun.

Focus on niche builds (e.g., pet builds, off-meta builds).
Set a unique goal for yourself (like soloing specific bosses or events with unconventional builds).
3. Join or Create a Group
You mentioned enjoying the new party finder, but perhaps you haven’t fully explored the social aspect of the game. Try finding a dedicated group of players to run content with regularly. Whether it's pushing Nightmare Dungeons or Helltides, grouping up could make it more engaging and social, especially if you team up with people who also enjoy theorycrafting or trying hardcore mode.

4. Set Personal Challenges or Goals
In Diablo 4, if the grind feels uninspired, try creating personal goals that aren't just about leveling up or farming loot. For example:

Speedrunning certain dungeons or events.
Completing all side-quests or 100% map exploration.
Focusing on PvP areas (Fields of Hatred), which can give you that hardcore-style thrill.
Solo or small-party challenges (e.g., no gear upgrades for a run).
5. Time-Gated Events (e.g., World Bosses, Helltides)
You mentioned getting bored of Helltides after 30 minutes, but have you explored how these time-gated events fit into the larger game? Sometimes rotating between Helltides, Whispers of the Dead, and World Bosses can add some structure to your gameplay, keeping things varied across your session.

6. Try Seasonal Content
When a new season rolls out, the game tends to feel fresh with new mechanics and goals. Starting a new seasonal character, especially in hardcore mode, could give you that sense of progression you miss from your Diablo 2 days.

7. Take Breaks and Alternate Games
It’s okay to feel like the game isn’t constantly engaging. Since you enjoy Diablo 2, you could switch back and forth between Diablo 2 and Diablo 4 to prevent burnout. Play Diablo 2 when you want that fast-paced chaos run, and hop into Diablo 4 when you’re in the mood for something slower and more methodical.

8. Explore the Story and Lore
If you haven’t fully immersed yourself in the lore and world-building of Diablo 4, this could be another way to get more enjoyment out of the game. Take the time to read the lore books, explore the world, and understand the story. This slower-paced exploration can make the game feel more rewarding.

9. Try Other Activities Besides Combat
Sometimes the constant grind can wear you out. Mix up your gameplay with things like:

Crafting and Trading: Become the go-to person for rare items.
Achievement Hunting: There are plenty of achievements in the game that offer unique challenges.
10. Maybe Step Back and Reset Expectations
Finally, you may just need to adjust your expectations. If you’re holding Diablo 4 to the standard of Diablo 2 or expecting it to fulfill that same niche, it might always fall short. Give yourself permission to see it as a different experience—something you can enjoy for short bursts, rather than marathon play sessions.

Oh man I tried to read but a lot lol

I’m still on D2R like 3 times a month, each time few hours. Satisfied nowadays b)

You probably were misinformed like a lot of other people, d4 is not really what you think it is. Think of it as a more aracade/action/dumb clicker game without much longevity and deep.

It’s your money so your call.
Personally I don’t regret buying the initial game and blasting with friends. Everything was new.
My experience with d4 deteriorated, peaking at the beta of the game until this point where I don’t really feel like investing anything into the game anymore.
The repetitiveness with killing bosses over and over, farming mats to then spawn uber boss to finally get mythiq uniques is not a prospect I’m looking forward to every season.
Unfortunately most of the seasonal content has been lackluster so far. With maybe the vampire thing being an exception.
The only good addition to the game I can think of in the last couple of months is helltide, which got a lot better.
I’m not enjoying the item system changes. While they were refreshing to begin with, they are wearing on me by always having the same lottery which can also result in bricking the item.

I remember some people saying that the base d4 game would be good but for me it isn’t really. They spend a lot of money and time on ads, the campaign (which nobody plays), implementing grindy rewards as statues, world renown. They implemented things like Pit, Gauntlet and Abattoir of Zir which basically did not make the game any better.

Comparing it to D2 is so hard because the actual base game in D2 is so much better. The dialogues, the loading screen, the music, the level design. If it would get some item and skill balancing it could be improved a lot.
Unlike D4. Where they turn the game on its head every now and so often because they realize what they did so far does not really look very promising in the long run.
D4 has the name Diablo in it, but I can’ really see how it matches the D2 of old.

D4 is supposed to be an MMOARPG and is still missing significant chat and guild features with the 1st expansion already looming on the horizon.

To close it I would not say that it’s not possible to enjoy D4. I played quiet a few hours and had my fun.
But right now I don’t really know if I want to spend money on a game that I don’t have the passion for anymore.

Btw yes, that's strange they didn't make realistic drop chance for them from random monsters.
