Idk how your doing with bl but if you don't have the aspect that makes bl orbit around you it's trash, use chain lightning until then id recommend

yeah it shoots in a straight line right now
one of the reasons why i said its not as good as its being judged
i just changed to chain lightning and its awesome

Yea, what was being said only applies when you have corresponding aspects both for blizzard (ice spikes) or ball lightning, sadly.

The system which should add variation instead became so mandatory that people don't even mention it.
