yeah. on steam the playtime should be reflected and add merit to their review as well (it's good steam has it displayed). although not sure if it's easy to fake that as i don't use steam

Not really. People who go with the mainstream will probably buy expansion because of that. If the press was universally bad, they’d move to something else, more popular.
