RMT is a feature of all games now because the core goals of game makers and players are opposite each other.

Game makers want to keep you engaged and maximize profit. They want you to log in every day, talk about the game, and spend your time and money with their products.

Players want to maximize enjoyment of the game. They want value out of their time spent.

So the goal for both is to find the middle ground. You still have to kill 1000 boars, but you get a shiny item or exp at the end of it that you get value from. Game makers need to create engaging experiences that are fun for players.

Howevwer, they don’t. They rush games to market with emphasis on the initial sale. They minimize development time and make promises to players, whereas the only true people they seek to serve are the share holders looking at quarterly profit metrics.

Now many gamers are adults with jobs who can’t put 10 hours per day into a game. So the logical thought is, “I make xx dollars per hour at my job, so my time in game can and should translate to a similar return in value. Why would I spend a week killing 1000 boars when I can buy the same end reward for 30 minutes of my time in currency?”

Sorry to ramble and someone smarter than me can probably write a whole thesis on the state of gaming today. To answer your question, I think it should be open trade because the market finds its way there eventually anyway.

also d2 pvp scene ended way before twitch was even a thing looking for a d2 dueler who streams is like looking for a blacksmith who drives a tesla. im sure some are there, but its very unlikely to find as those two existed in two different times and what you are trying to do now is saying those arent good blacksmiths because "only old ppl do that now, also ppl work harder now so they would be better at blacksmithing than an actual experienced blacksmith" try with DHA i guess, maybe he still plays original d2 idk, also be sure to tell him that hdin is a shit char only noobs play, im sure he will respond favorably to that

Okay, d2 players are blacksmiths that continue talking that horses and horseshoes are great. While all other world racing teslas.

Then just dont talk how good d2 pvp and speedruns, they probably were good(no, never) long time ago. And now it is 100% shit and any good player in any competetive game will confirm my words.

Btw quake arena was hyped that time and any good quake player will say that pvp in d2 is shit

and no, my comparison was ad hoc most comparisons are! i mean yeah i actually do think horses are great and way more stylish and worth more than a fucking tesla and i would pay more for a race horse than a tesla, but still, it was an ad hoc comparison so it shouldnt really be extended beyond the specific situation

yeppers ! any speed related game, or even sports! for example formula 1 and shit that needs fast reaction time as its IQ related to an extent! i learned that in anthropology class, there was a question "why is education in finland so good?"
cause on paper, it sounded random af, i mean nothing special etc. but in reality it did work
conclusion was, finnish education worked simply because it was in finland i mean you can give the best education to a retard and you wont get jack shit, and in this case the opposite happened, you had a high iq masterrace that could work with pretty much any education
