iuno, i feel like it's more to do with instant gratification. players don't want to put in the work, they want to alt-tab and follow someone else's build not experience the game or spend time ironing out kinks themselves

but yeah, you are correct why would they spend all that time to have a great build when someone else put in the work..

because the desire to compete (be a part of the group who achieved something in the game) became greater than the desire to create something unique  oldschool players cant understand this because back when we played, rpgs were all about playing your own way (technically that actually is the philosophy behind them). although even we had situations where the desire to compete would > the desire to be unique, good example was d2 pvp where we would just all make same pvp builds because when optimization matters, originality suffers

edit: damn i sound like a boomer  ..

Certainly, in any MMO or RPG, approximately 90% of the player base consists of casual gamers who lack the time, attention span, or a compelling reason to fully invest in the game. This pattern is consistent across the MMO and ARPG spectrum, whether you're talking about games like (ESO), (D4), or (PoE). Most players start the game, level up a bit, explore the game's features, perhaps create a few characters, and then eventually lose interest, putting the game on the back burner. They might return occasionally when they have free time, but they don't make a sustained commitment.

These games often don't introduce groundbreaking innovations. They lack the intricate combat systems found in games like God of War or Elden Ring, and their storytelling is typically unremarkable. Therefore, after experiencing one such game, players often feel like they've played them all. It typically involves a repetitive cycle of leveling up, using projectile attacks, and collecting loot.

A significant portion of the player base prefers to hang out in town, engage in voice chats with other players, and showcase the cosmetics they've purchased from the in-game store. They enjoy these social interactions and lighthearted activities rather than continuously grinding through the same 10-20 dungeons or trials. The more challenging content is available in the game, the fewer players are genuinely committed to tackling it. Organizing a 12 or 18-player team for a challenging dungeon or trial filled with intricate mechanics becomes a headache and a waste of time. People often give up, there are various real-life distractions, such as children crying, phone calls, or the need for bathroom breaks.

Even if you manage to gather a group of semi-committed players and engage in these challenging activities, it can be disheartening to endlessly chase the BiS gear or optimize your character's performance, only to have a new patch or DLC significantly change the game's dynamics, rendering your previous efforts obsolete. This constant cycle of effort and time investment is demoralizing, and many players burn out quickly.

To cope with this, players turn to established "gurus" within the game community, who offer advice and optimal build guides. These guides often include more accessible gear choices, making it easier for players with limited time to enjoy most of the game's content without the need to pursue the elusive top-tier gear that only marginally improves their performance.

You guys are right and I understand that most of us have life and responsibilities and shit...

But that wasn't the point I was trying to make, I am talking NOT about casuals but semi-hard players like members of this trade forum.

The same guys who are complaining about the game being shallow also don't have a clue about different affixes and statuses and as you already said there is nothing new and all can be put into 3 pages.

Like again I am not talking about people who works 40 hours a week, has 2 kids and only plays for a few hours a week, but people who spends a few hours a day gaming and reading this forum and also some dumb build guides.

I guess people got used to everything being chewed and put into their mouths and are just too lazy to use 1% of their brain.
