So d4 will soon have all major d3 pillars:

1. Ancestral (ancient) items, which rarely drops.
2. Greater rifts (pit).
3. Linear progression in pit with legendary glyphs (gems).
4. Separate paragon levels in total amount of somewhere 325.
5. World tiers now become difficulties, with familiar name from d3.
6. Game has even more linear progression now with masterworking.

Devs even referenced d3 directly in latest updated. And that was a bit of surprise.

They were clearly struggling with this game, but I thought it still has it's own direction. Looks like it is no longer the case and they will just expand on d3 as foundation.

If you all watch the campfire chat. They made a very clear comment, straight for the devs themselves. They made it clear that "If it worked in Diablo 3, why would we not use it"?. I think everyone should really watch the campfire chat in it's entirety.

Well, "worked in d3" means d3 itself worked. But that's debatable.

At least D3 was fun on release, when noobs were crying the wasps in Act 2 were too hard XD
