God destroyed the Diablo franchise in the same way he destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.

In the same way that one could enjoy the same joke twice, but not a third time and would get up and leave by the 4th, D3 and D4 were an autistic repetition.

D1 surprised with the original idea, D2 with the new technology used to implement that idea, while D3 and D4 were a useless addition.

I think option 5 is the most accurate
