Ya pretty stupid.

The trade system in the game is pretty much non-existent.

I would be surprised if they actually banned anybody though.

..?

Trade system actually perfectly in-game.

Anyway, just be safe, follow what I said and you'll be fine 100%

It just means:
don't type out your in-game name on the forums (pm it)
don't link things through path of exile forum (that shows your ign)
don't say jsp or fg

be smart  ;)

Lol, the trade system works absolutely fine. You are probably missing the d3 auction house. The trade chat always works perfectly fine to barter with other users.

So you are saying having to join public teams and try to get into all 20 chat instances (please tell me you know trade chat is instanced) trying to get best offer for my item is perfect?
Far from it.

edit : oh and not to mention you have to remember which instance you have joined so that you only post in each instance once because you dun want to spam.

People always freak out over this but its the same stance ALL games legally have to take including D3.

if they freely allowed people to trade items for "real" money then you can get tax free income which is just one of the many legal hassles that they can get away from by simply stating that they do not condone or allow it in all official statements
im sure the people at GGG have no problem with a bunch of nerds bragging and passing around items that are above average or more useful to someone else
and unlike alot of sites you cant sell the FG for real cash so its not even real world trading its just passing items through a different medium

where did i mention perfect? he said the trade system is non-existent which is false. if you cant find each other in towns, just go right outside town and drop a portal for the other user to join you.

As much as I use d2jsp to trade in various games (from D2, WoW, to DDO, rift, MTGO, to many more), and that I believe d2jsp should be allowed until they implement a better trade system,
I can understand GGG's concern and stand against us D2JSPers, or the use of D2JSP, as forum gold here is actually purchasable with real money (although I doubt if many would have done so)

They have stated repeatedly that they do not want PoE to be pay to win like D3(because you can pay $10000000 dollars to be "uber").
When they develop PoE, they had in mind that PoE should be rid of all these D3 features.(easy game play/ RMAH / dull skill system etc)

What those that is against the usage of D2JSP fail to comply is that most d2jspers are not involved with real money trade. Even if a very minor minority of the users do, they make a relatively small impact to the game.
The debate is 2 sided and it's hard to come up with an absolute conclusion. I believe GGG is monitoring us JUST IN CASE it gets out of hand, which I doubt if it would.
(if people will purchase fg with real money to buy PoE items etc)

I'd just suggest everyone to NOT mention your in game name in public, just in case.
When you trade in game, mention your d2jsp handle but not "d2jsp".

The problem is trade chat does not allow you to interact with majority of players online. You are probably showing only 2~5% most of the population online by posting your item once in trade chat.
In order to counter such problem, you have to join public groups (just to be able to see other instances), join THEM, post your item once in EACH instance, join other public groups, and then rinse and repeat.
Meanwhile you have to pay close attention to player names of the instances you join so you don't double/triple spam in the trade chat.
It's very inconvenient. Meanwhile, people very seldom use the trade forum.

It's not just "not perfect". It's ultimately flawed -- to be exaggerating a bit, it's a non existence.
Being able to show your item to 2% of the population online (if you dun understand why or how this happens, you should learn more about the trade chat system before giving opinion) is not "existent".

EDIT : I re-read Chris' post. His post clearly states that they are against any advertisement of the use of any external trade. But as long as you do not mention it, I dun see how you will get banned.
Just do not ask for FG in their forum / trade chat. Do not mention jsp / d2jsp anyway in game.
JSP'ers are gonna use jsp anyways, but they want to prevent d2jsp from becoming too big and too much to handle before it gets out of hand. (because fg, at the end of day, is still purchasable with real money).
