So im pretty new i got a level 27 sith assassin and i went dark. And for Republic im about to make a jedi consolar and go shadow. i was wondering does it really matter if u got dark or light? Becuz seems like we get same gear pretty much?

Doesn't really make a difference (other than weapon crystal color limitations). The gear is mirrored for both sides, just a little flavor for your char.
