For an MMO to succeed it needs a couple of things.

1) Money. Money. And even more money. EA has sponsored BioWare for this game and therefore money hasn't been a problem and never will be.
2) A well known universe we can relate to. Star Wars has this for obvious reasons. So did WoW. Rift is just one of many MMOs who lacked this.
3) A large fanbase BEFORE release. BioWare has this because of their countless of good games throughout the years, and Star Wars has it because... well... it's Star Wars. Once again, Rift didn't have that. WoW did have it. GW2 has it but not in the same size as the Warcraft and Star Wars universe.
4) End-game content. Rift has none worth talking about neither did any other MMO that has released since WoW. Hopefully sw:tor will have it. Only time will tell.
5) A nice flow/feeling in the game play. WoW has that. GW2 looks like it has that. Sw:tor looks like it has that. Rift probably had that as well but since it lacked on all previous points it wasn't enough to save it.

this list is trash.

A well known universe? The second most successful mmo out there, eve, didnt exactly have a well known universe. It didnt have a large fanbase before release, its not exactly a level based game so end game content doesnt really apply either, you get where im going here.

Oh please. Eve? Are you fucking kidding me? How many subscribers do they have? 150k? 200k? 300k? It definitely doesn't have above 500k. So let me laugh a bit more. You call that successful?

Perhaps if it DID have the points that you just claimed it didn't have then they'd go beyond 1-2 million subscribers. And even those numbers aren't that fantastic anymore. There are so many players in the MMORPG genre now (thanks to WoW) that 1-2 million is considered pretty low compared to 5-6 years ago. Now tell me this list is trash again.

Oh and let me rephrase. A successful MMO doesn't need them, but if they have it it's a very big advantage to become successful.

Well let's hope there's a 5 day (plus/minus 3 days) of early access. So perhaps you can still play it before the official launch?

I finally got a chance to watch these two videos. And I must say that I believe that BioWare is doing that "Something Magical".
