A well known universe? The second most successful mmo out there, eve, didnt exactly have a well known universe. It didnt have a large fanbase before release, its not exactly a level based game so end game content doesnt really apply either, you get where im going here.
Oh please. Eve? Are you fucking kidding me? How many subscribers do they have? 150k? 200k? 300k? It definitely doesn't have above 500k. So let me laugh a bit more. You call that successful?
Perhaps if it DID have the points that you just claimed it didn't have then they'd go beyond 1-2 million subscribers. And even those numbers aren't that fantastic anymore. There are so many players in the MMORPG genre now (thanks to WoW) that 1-2 million is considered pretty low compared to 5-6 years ago. Now tell me this list is trash again.
Oh and let me rephrase. A successful MMO doesn't
need them, but if they have it it's a
very big advantage to become successful.
