i should hope not since it isnt a subscription game. A larger playerbase? sure it will.
Yeah I meant playerbase, and no it won't. Obviously none of us can prove it now since there's nothing to prove but let's review these posts 6 months from now

I can just say that pre-orders in the US only and ONLY physical pre-orders (ppl who went down to the store and pre-ordering it there) are above 500,000 copies and that's a fact. Now add digital pre-orders in the US which there are a lot more of (which I know from polls on the official forums) then you can add another 1,500,000 copies (since the ratio is around 3:1 in favour of digital pre-ordering iirc) so that'll be around 1,500,000-2,000,000 copies PRE-ORDERS just in the US. In Europe the numbers haven't been revealed but it's probably somewhat the same. And these numbers are already 2 weeks old. We're looking at approximately 3,500,000+ pre-orders (possibly more), and let's not talk about how many people will be playing one month after release, right now there's a lot of people who have no idea that this game is even on the way.
I'm not even being optimistic when I say 3,000,000 at the official launch. During the early game access those millions of players who pre-ordered the game will be talking about this game so much to friends who hasn't pre-ordered the game so that when the game reaches the official launch (20th Dec in US, 22nd Dec in EU) then those numbers will have jumped even further.
It wouldn't surprise me if there's A LOT more than 3 million players after the first week. Hell, Rift had like 1 million subscribers at launch and that game wasn't even close to the hype that sw:tor has and sw:tor has a fan-base far larger than Rift and GW2 together. Not only because of the Star Wars universe but also because of BioWare's earlier games.
Now consider this. The timing is flawless. I think we can all agree that WoW has reached its peak a long time ago and it's just downhill from here on out. Most people who's still playing WoW are doing it because there's nothing better to play yet and tbh most of them are bored to hell and are just waiting to jump to the next new thing. You noticed that in Rift especially, but that game failed, which wasn't any surprise to me if I may add. GW2 won't be out for a while and let's not talk about D3, we all know Blizzard. If that game is being released before 2013 then props to Blizzard lol.
I know plenty of "famous" WoW PvE guilds and PvP players/guilds who're going to give WoW a break and try out sw:tor. If sw:tor succeeds, they'll stay, and bring a LOT of fanbois with them. Those fanbois will then bring their friends etc. That's how it works with successful MMOs. 1 player tells 2 players. Those 2 players tells another 4 players.
There's no doubt that sw:tor will reach an extremly high number of subscribers on launch date and the following weeks. The question is if BioWare can maintain them in the long run. I think they can but only time will tell.
And to end this whole small wall of text. We're 3 months PRIOR to the release date. There'll be PLENTY of more pre-orders until then. All these numbers can only increase from now and up till the release date.
