LoL did a great job for that marketing table. Make the game free, but if you want the new character when it comes out before its nerfed buy it and some skins for a good a price. Shit you want that demon tryndamere skin with all that new shit? Pay 20$ for it. Pretty smart.

Generally micro transaction business model generates more revenue than p2p model, just fyi. It is p2p because p2p is safe, and because the game has no micro-transaction set-up.

Thats easy to answer why. Blizzard is going to do everything they can possible to control the real money item sales on their auction house's. Think of it like this. Blizz owning all the online d2 item stores. Yet the game is free to play.

they dont get banned because diablo 2 uses warden 1.0 and they dont care enough to buy people to moderate the game, their entire revenue comes from wow anyway so.....

this is only true in a game with low subs
