So, this game would have been pretty good as a f2p, but it really isn't super engaging like skyrim is, and its fucking long and boring through some parts like all MMOs are. I like the game, and I'd probably get a good 200+ hours out of it IF IT WAS F2P. I won't be subscribing to it unless I have some extra cash and want to play, which honestly isn't going to be all too often. The main faults for me and this game are:

Combat: when I press a button, I want something to happen, and a lot of the time I press them too quickly because I'm used to that, and because there are hidden timers on every skill some don't go off how I want them to. Also no need to aim from a range, but melee is a bitch if you're close up and moving around. Pretty backwards if you ask me.

Exploration: Sure, you find new places, complete quests in those new places, etc. Then you NEVER GO BACK THERE, EVER. In skyrim, you had to visit many places in close proximity for a variety of quests, resulting in you going to the same areas repeatedly and getting to know the land and really feel like you were a part of that world. In eso, you just feel like a supernatural permanent problem solver and everything is done for an area after doing all the quests for that area. Basically, there's no crossover between zones, and to really feel like my character is a part of that world I feel there should be. This is probably partly because of my next point.

Leveling: Take one of the best leveling systems ever created (skyrim) and mash it with the leveling system of one of the best online games ever created (d2) and you have ESO. Why isn't this good? Farming areas should not increase the level of your character. It should increase combat levels, but not give you any xp. Completing quests however, should, since you actually get world/game experience from it. Pretty much its backwards. Not a huge deal, but I really expected better after playing skyrim and LOVING the level system and scaling.

Having Character Levels: Now, why is this a bad thing? Because its and Elder scrolls game, and you should not be restricted from doing quests because you're level 10 and want to do the main quest, then explore the world, vs doing all this petty shit while Molag Bal wreaks havoc and then finally getting to him. How to fix it? Make it like skyrim, but remove character levels entirely. You have different trees that level up and you get skill points based on the number of combined levels you have. This would also really make it feel like a late game character has a lot more power than an early game one.

Thing is, its just an mmo. I bought it because its and elder scrolls game that just happens to be online and am disappointed. It isn't a bad game but it isn't the game I wanted. I'll probably 81 another skyrim char before I vet10 my FIRST eso char.

U have great points but this is all things they fix in patches and expansions
U need to give the game some time
Don't play again till expansion
And when u are playing, throw ESO some tips/ideas
I did it on wow all the time

I think your reasoning is spot on and something that can be fixed but depends on how much of a priority it is. Ive never played any of the console games except like 10 min of the latest one so i wont even act like i know what the thrill was like. I played d2 for a long time as well as wow. I think people only are looking for the console part and not appriciating the hard work it takes to make this online and the way it is. Imo the new patch is going to bring the game more life. Also people just shit on this game cause thru dont have it and are butthurt wow players who dont want their beloved wow to be forgot about. Your post is the only one ive seen with legitment reasons why this game isnt up  to your standards without shitting on a game that really has alot of hope

That was your biggest mistake.
Thinking an MMO would be like a single player game.

You need to play this game as if it were a new MMO, not a typical Elder Scrolls game.

A lot of your comments are just you relating it to a game it's not.
Almost as silly as people that say movies are bad because they aren't the same as the book.

agreed. I'm going to try to play it this time with the mindset of it being an mmo and NOT Skyrim.

The game feels like an indie game rather than an elder scrolls mmorpg. It just feels wrong.

You assumed an MMO would be the same as a single player game?
