It has to be a wired xbox controller(Meaning the wire can not be removed from the controller), not a charge and play kit as that dousn't act as a USB connection.

game reg controller and for the games on like dark siders which need a controller like a 360 controlelr theres that switch

Turn the controller on before launching the game.
