True enough about runewords and differentiating gear but I always thought people had pretty similar gear on classic D2. The "pros" all wanted similar stats on each item and everyone knew exactly what mods could could generate on all the items for maximum value.

There was still quite a bit of variation before LOD. What type of armor was it and such. Runewords were always in mage plate/archon plate and so it made it lame. I remember when people had different rare weapons and such. Back when a melee character was actually good...

People wanted similar stats obviously, because they wanted their item to be as close to perfect as it could be. But I still felt like their was way more variety in armor type and weapon type, things turned out to be different colors occasionally, etc. Item hunting was actually interesting because you were constantly picking up good items. It wasn't just rushing people for the forge lol.

d3 = gabage. its WoW with a diablo shell. the fact that people can use real money to buy items has already ruined the games economy before its even out. the lack of single palyer is BS. i gotta pay 60 bucks i wanan be ablwe to plau it whenever i want to, i want to be able to install it on my laptop and take it with me on trips ( which i do often ) and not have to wait till i find some wifi to mooch off of.

The gameplay looks nothing like WoW.. I don't know why people keep saying that. WoW plays nothing like a dungeon crawler, D3 plays like a dungeon crawler.

Yea, I don't see how it's like WoW at all, it still has that hack n slash feel of D2 but to each one his own I guess. Imo, the skills with their runes allow for far more variation than D2 ever had as well.

i didnt mean the gamplay so much as the above mentioned problems. am i the only one who thinks the auction house is a terrible idea? its gonna make the game dominated by all the rich kids / people who will buy stuff. they wont even really have to play that much, just to lvl up and whatnot. im sure people will still rush so it will not really be any different than d2, they will get rushed, power lvl and use the gear they bought ( most likeley without ever actually playing the game and beating it). i can only see two good things about it : one, its free to play, and two, no mods of any kind ( but only because they will be making money off the auction house and whatnot ). it may be just me guys but i dont really see it as the shining star everyone else does

Oh I know almost nothing about the AH, I don't even expect to spend that much time on it. But, really, the AH is just another d2jsp except it's within the game and besides, jsp is also full of rich kids who buy fg for junk.

I like the AH idea. It actually makes the game's real currency worth something. In D2, gold was pretty much useless. People would never trade a good item for gold. So the game just ended up using currency in the form of like SOJ or w/e since the games currency was useless. People will probably still trade items, we'll see though.
