On Dota2 Keys, HoN players, and other Related Topics
Hi.

I've been told there is widespread distress concerning the HoN players (and some former Dota players) in the Dota 2 beta.

Here are the reasons for what has been done thusfar, in no particular order:

Tralfamadore: Yes, I've heard from several reliable sources that Tralf is a "bad mannered, cocky player". He admits this himself. I may be entirely wrong in this, but from my experience HoN has a much more volatile and flame-oriented community than DotA (I spent most of my Dota time in Europe and Asian leagues, so I'm not sure about the atmosphere of the NA scene, but I doubt that much can compare to the atrocious manners of the HoN community as a whole). Given that, it makes sense that most players would be inclined to be bad mannered in HoN.

Cardinal: Many people have sent me messages about Cardinal's thread on this forum. Yes, I am aware of the situation and Cardinal has messaged me privately. For the sake of honesty, I will say that there are several reasons Cardinal does not have a key. The first being the community; whenever an overwhelming number of people whom I trust ask for a player to be admitted into the Beta, I do my best to facilitate it. (A good example of this is FujiApples, who I have barely met, but whom was vouched by so many good-standing players that he was invited). Many people have asked me not to include Cardinal in the Beta due to poor performance and even poorer attitude.

GrandGrant: This one is probably the largest issue I've dealt with, and I stand by my reasoning. Yes, Grant is a troll. But since he has been invited to Beta, he has been nothing but well mannered and respectful to everyone in the community. This is Dota2, not Dota1, and I do not approve of precedent bias. If Grant should violate the terms of his Beta agreement, he will be punished. But until that happens, I will continue to have faith in him as a good part of the community and stand by my decision to invite him. He has done nothing but good thusfar in the Beta, and has contributed more than most. If you have a problem with this, feel free to contact me.

Why HoN players in General?: Icefrog has three criteria for Beta testers. 1. They be well mannered. 2. They have a good machine to run the game. 3. Preferably, they will play at a Tournament level.

In 4 weeks the Beta will go into it's first invite stage. At that point, it would be nice to know how well HoN players adapt (both in game skill and community relation).

How Can You get a Key?: Lastly, I am sorry if you have not received a key. Spamming people (such as Korok, Sam or 5s) will not help you. The beta will open up in 4 weeks, and I'm sure most, if not all, of you will be able to receive keys at that time. If there has been an oversight to someone who is a key part of the development of this game both in game mechanic and community growth, please contact a trusted NA player (I personally will accept recommendations from Korok, Fear and Merlini) and I will do my best to accommodate and serve the Dota scene.

They don't say anything specific about retail, the only thing that hints at it is this, "get it out there as fast as we can."

Also if they try to put it into retail as soon as possible, that means a short beta period, lets say 3 months. Then after that they just cut off those thousands of people testing and say pay up for retail? OR does having a short beta period mean that the game will be free to play?

Are they really going to lose a lot of money if they make people wait to play the game in 2013? Maybe they just want to crush the shit out of S2 games before S2 does something that pleases their customers? Or maybe they want to put the game out right away so S2/riot can't copy their features?

Strangely I might like S2's gameplay a bit more. It's faster paced, and playing supports won't be a huge pain in the ass. Imagine how shitty support players in Dota2 will be without assist gold or cheaper wards?

Oh no, you have to actually be skilled and intelligent to play the game well as a support!

Since you are neither, you should stick to HoN so you can play with people of similar caliber.
