Becoming a Better Student
By changing the way you manage your time, tweaking some of your study habits, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you can greatly increase your chances at being a better and more successful student. These helpful tips will point you in the right direction of obtaining that A+ grade. In order for this to work it, you will need discipline and practice, while also being motivated.
When it comes down to managing your time, this can be the difference of you struggling the whole semester and finishing with a C average, or turning out to be the kid running down the hall in the end; screaming about how you received an A on the final and finished with an overall A+ in the class. The first important step is being prepared. One way to achieve this, is to know what will be discussed in the lecture you are about to attend. By knowing previously what is going on in the classroom before you enter allows you to be engaged in class discussions from start to finish. The next important step is staying ahead. Do not wait until the last minute! When assignments are received, do them that day, or the day after. Waiting until the night before assignments are due is the road to failure, you need to establish a schedule on when things need to be done so that you are not always rushing. The last important step for time management is staying focused and motivated. School is not a walk in the park, there will be times when you do badly on a test despite having studied for hours. Giving up is one thing that can ruin you toward the end of your semester, receiving a bad grade in one class and having all of this work on your mind can overwhelm you and cause you to go into panic mode, which will cause you to just give up. In order to avoid this, you need to take deep breaths. By reassuring yourself that you have everything under control and telling yourself that you can do this, you will boost up your motivation to complete the rest of your work. If you can learn how to manage your time correctly, you will be on your way to becoming a better and more successful student.
Believe it or not but your health effects they way you perform as a student. Living a healthy lifestyle helps you avoid certain roadblocks that a non healthy individual might run into. The first step to work on is getting the correct amount of sleep. If you only get three hours of sleep a night, your brain does not have time to fully recharge its self. This leads to not being able to pay attention, as well as not being able to focus and obtain the information talked about in that particular lesson. Getting a good seven to eight hours of sleep every night will let your brain regenerate throughout the night so that it can work at full potential the next day. The next step is eating healthy. Our brain runs off of sleep and important nutrients that are obtained from the food we eat. Skipping breakfast, and going to class gives your brain no nutrients to run off of and also makes you less efficient. Waking up every morning and eating a bowl of cereal or some fruit allows your brain to get the important nutrients needed to run at full capacity. The last step for being a healthier student is to be active. Working out is a great stress reliever and allows for you to vent through different ways. It allows you to wander off in your own world for an hour or so and not have to be thinking about school work. This allows your mind to take a break and relax, which benefits you physically and mentally. As you can see being healthy can have a major role in being a better and more successful student.
Many people do not have good study habits. If you are not able to focus when sitting down to study for a test or while reviewing in general, then maybe you need to explore your options. A lot of students study with loud music on, or with kids running around them. This creates distractions, which is the first step you need to get rid of, in order to maintain good study habits. Basically, the most beneficial environment to be in is a quiet place, either at the library or an office room. You can be in your room, just make sure to limit any distractions you may encounter. Reducing distractions allows you to spend the full amount of time studying; without getting side tracked. Another step one must do in developing good study habits is to set priorities. What is more important, reviewing your notes for an upcoming test, or going out? You are in college for one reason, which is to learn and gain a complete understanding on the classes you need in order for you to obtain your degree. With that being said, if you have more important issues to address rather than being in class or at home studying, then maybe right now is not the best time to be attending college. The last step is using your resources. If the school offers free tutoring or math labs then take advantage of that. The worst thing possible is for you to be struggling in a class, and not be using resources that can actually help you in that particular subject.
As you can see throughout the essay, there are a lot of minor things that can be changed in order for you to be a better and more successful student. If you take the time out of your day to implement some of the techniques talked about, I can almost promise you that you will see an improvement in your grades, which will also lead you in the right path to becoming the best student you can possibly be.
