Thinking of playing 1.07 or 1.08 or 1.09 but dunno which would be funnier/more interesting to play.

1.08 is the hardest patch, if you want some challenge.
1.07 is one of the most unique patches due to the many weird bugs.
1.09 is most fun to play, as it is pretty much balanced.

Many op unique items existed in 1.07/1.08. But these items cannot be obtained via boss farming, due to the broken TC system. You have to run racks. Odds are slightly better in 1.08.
Crafted items can be extremely powerful in 1.07, due to some broken recipes and the availability of magic-only affixes to spawn. You can craft weapons with 500+ ED or 30% life leech (extremely rare ofc). Larzuk can give up top 3 sockets to a crafted item. The reason for 1.08 being much harder is that all 1.07 OP builds were patched (CB javazon, sorc with uncapped Static Field and CM breaking cold immunities etc.). In both patches monsters and bosses drop zero useful items, due to the broken MF and TC system, so prepare to invest hundreds of hours to rack-running. Also, in 1.07 mercenaries can be useful, as they level up very quick (barbs also heal very quick), while in 1.08 levelling mercs is a pain in the ass. Unfortunately life leech does no work on mercs.

Can only speak for 1.07 as I didn't played the other two just yet.

Coldmastery pierces immunes, so the only monsters that FO can't kill are "magic resistant" uniques. (but the merc can, or just park them)

FO stops working if it hits an enemy with the orb, just play around that fact, with max static it's no biggy, everything just melts.

but beware that any char except sorc will definitly struggle alot, Baal being next to impossible for meelee chars (his manaflame does incredible damage, 1shots most chars)

would advice to get ATMA V to mule off your goodies, it's not as good as gomule, but gomule doesn't work with those patches.

Cows in hell are level 90 i believe, so you can level very far there, and many places in act 5 are level 99, so with enough patience you can get to 99 more quickly than in 1.10+ (but would recommend self-mp for more exp)

Out of the top of my hat, 1.08 is good for a Highlordswrath with FRW instead of IAS, tho don't hold your breath, mf doesn't work properly.
Also it's the only patch where a Belt can have Deadly strike (the craft requires a Mal and certain days of the month)

1.09 is imo only great for players64 command, if the cows are still 90 you could easily get 99 there, I guess.
