Will "-enemy cold resistances" help the damage of the aura without using a melee attack or spell on the mob first?

I am confused as fudge.

So the mobs run around with less cold resistance and your character or merc doesn't take advantage of this?

What is the point to your question? So they run around with less Cold resistance... so what, it doesn't help if you don't kill them faster while having cold damage?

I think the question is if it works on the first attack or if this is some kind of on hit effect.

Other than being immune to cold or monster(s) have "Chill effect 0" it immediately affects the other monsters without those effects.


0 Chill effect applies to Dolls, souls and another (can not recollect their name) monster in Hell WSK or throne.

Note: a 0 Chill monster does NOT have the "Immune Cold" listed in their tag for "Immune" status. Dolls (those little critters you find in A3 flayer jungle, Souls or Gloams also have 0 Chill effect in hell, and there are those beast type holding 2 weapons in WSK 3 and throne [hell])

I believe the monsters that cant be chilled in wsk are frenzytaurs, which is awful because they can spawn extra fast and send your holy freeze merc to the moon.

Personally never had an issue with them when using my sorc... I would just static them to 50% health (hell diff) and walk away (not tele) and merc crushes them one at a time.

Mind you... strategy comes into play here, tele to a different location and minimize the amount of mob(s) for merc to obliterate... same goes for souls, and as for dolls, like hell I am going to static them and get obliterated with their physical damage they deal when they die.

EDIT: as for vipers... just don't move towards them, that is asking to die... don't panic tele to another area that you have not made a SAFEZONE etc... strategies forgotten and lost because guides are subjected to best items ONLY.

True, true. I always roll with shaeled stormshield, tgods, and defiance merc on every blizz sorc I make for that very reason, eliminates so many threats and the items are easy enough to find in a week or two of mephy runs.

im more interested in the damage procs dealt by the holy freeze aura. its for a sorc that uses dream, dragon, and maybe a doom to mf in normal. I know that lightning and fire mastery improve damage, but i just wanted to know if cold mastery would help or not.

I use dual dream for that purpose, the aura damage from holy fire and holy freeze isn't even close to that. I have a cresent moon for the -35% enemy lightning res, but im not sure if it's effective. Still everything in normal dies realy fast, NM takes about 2 aura hits to kill all monsters. You can always get holy freeze from merc and add dragon armor with dual dream if you want.

I believe what he asked is following:
If Holy Freeze takes 50 health per second from monster,
is Holy Freeze gonna take more than 50 health per second if he has "-enemy cold resistances" in eq. (e.g. 60 healths per second)

threw in random numbers to make a point.

he might be interested if it's worth putting 16 Cold Facets in his gear to reduce enemy cold resi by 80'% and dealing more damage to them by running around :D



and the answer is yes, it will take effect without need of landing any attack.
