on and off d2 player for a pretty long time, always played softcore though

going to try my hand at hardcore for my winter/covid project

the loooong term goal is to finish a HC grail




so here is where i am having an issue deciding.. should i try and build 1 "do everything" character.. or several that specialize and excel at different things?


so for any of the hc grailers out there.. do you like having many builds? or fewer?

for the people who rock 1 "do everything" build.. what character do you use? what are its weaknesses? do you have to respec and regear often?


i have heard in HC a lot fewer builds are "viable" how true is this? by viable do they just mean "fast"? i certainly think some builds would have to play it a little slower/safer.. but everything should be viable no?

When I first starting playing HC walkthroughs I made 1 char and played it. I died a few times so I would try different builds after death. I now have a few chars to pick through to play on.

Which ever you choose just have fun

As a returning player, don't restrict yourself so much. Just play and do what feels right. Maybe solo char small stash or multi char plugy shared stash. Wish I would've done this myself.

you could defenitely play only 1 char. but not sure how fun it is...

easiest to start with is defenitely hammerdin. strong in defense and offense. but any char is doable. and don't make the mistake and use this "HC gear" some people here suggest. monsters aren't harder in HC.
surviving is a matter of playstyle and concentration and not gear. i would never use a stormshield for dr or a coh to stack res for those "evil conv souls".
sure you will die sometimes in the beginning. but trust me, you will learn from it and finally manage to rape p8 even with squishy chars.
