I only started using jsp in late 2019, even though I made the account in 2015. I have never looked into this Player Vs Monster Discussion and since I did a few days ago I abolsolutely love watching the progression of some of the topics posted. First one I checked out was Dino, and it made me decide to give the whole single player full walk a go, 20 years since I started playing d2 (off and on) and this is my first attempt:P. I too chose a frenzy barb which is something ive never even gave a good try to on Battle.net, and I was just wondering, is there a certain /players setting to choose for better outcome on Countess and MF runs? I assume it would be 8 players for best drops but wanted to see if there was anyone who could give me a bit of knowledge about the whole player setting. I didn't even know it was possible to change that until I saw Dino topic:P

thank you for your time!

Welcome Surv! Many people here can answer many questions which you have. If you want, feel free to PM me and I'll help if I can, just because, as always, you'll see some trolls! :lol: However, most are helpful!

To answer your question about the player settings, /p8 gives best experience and item drops per monster, therefore, if you're looking for items, then /p8 is best. Most people run countess (reruns that is) on /p1 because they are not looking for items, but instead runes. When you kill Countess, she drops 0-3 runes on p1. This is because less items are dropped, making more room for runes to drop. This is because when max items are dropped by countess, no runes can be dropped. It's kinda like that. Each player setting you go up (1 > 2) the monsters HP goes up 50%, up to 450%.

Monsters' experience value and Hit Points will change with the number of players in the game. When more people join a game, the monsters become harder, and as they leave the game, the monsters become easier. For the ultimate challenge, fight solo against monsters on Hell difficulty in an 8-player game. In multiplayer, when a monster is created, its Hit Points are multiplied by the number of players in the game: (Life = Hit Points * (Number of Players + 1) / 2). The monster's base experience value is determined by the following formula:

Experience = X * (n + 1) / 2

X = base experience
n = # of players in the game

Typing "/players X", where X is a number between the current number of players and the maximum (8), in the message box will set the effective number of players in the game (in single player, open Battle.net and TCP/IP games only).

For MFing at higher levels, p8 settings are best for the best drops. However, some people like to farm on lower settings, such as p3 or p5 because they increase the drop rate from p1, but are much easier to kill than p8. To note: each 2 players that join the game (Players set to 4, etc) will increase drop rate. What that means is player settings 1/2 are the same drop rate, 3/4 are the same, etc.

No problem. Another tip to getting max experience but getting the rune drop you want is to get to the room of countess and once she has “spawned” she’s classified as a p8 monster and you can switch to p1 for the drop. I’ve never done this but I’ve been told by a few people it’s a method of keeping it legit p8, and getting the rune drops desired.

im in act 4 now, so just rerunning, i tried p1 on countess for the last few runs and ive gotten decent rune drops as far as quantity or runes, nothing over ral yet tho:P i did just try getting to meph as a rerun and changing to p8 before attacking him and the drops seemed to be not to bad! im still a newb as far as single player goes, but its definitely more exciting and makes you appreciate the minor drops a lot more then multiplayer does!

Welcome Surv!

It's a brand new diablo world opening for you :lol:
Feel free to play as you enjoy it the most and be true to your own rules and goals...

If you need to know which monster can drop what item such as the countess in normal and things like that, you can type ''silospen'' on google and the first link will take you to a drop calculator for it. *(ral is highest rune from countess)

See you around B)

The Countess drops less runes on average the higher the player count is. Don't know why, never have. This is why everyone resets the player count to 1 when farming Countess.
/p8 is sort of the staple challenge for most people soloing the game, but it's by no means a requirement. Some builds just can't do /p8.

Also check out The Arreat Summit website, The Amazon Basin, and This for a wealth of useful info.

Whoops never mind. I guess I know why now.

Welcome and enjoy.
In no time, you will realize which members are trolling in here with their advices and which are giving valid advising.
Whenever you need help, you can pm someone or simply make a topic to get more insight on any matter.

Just remember:
People in here absolutely disapprove hacks in your single player gaming experience.
Using some plugins like Ladder Runewords or bigger stash is alright, but any kind of item editing programs are not gonna give you a good time in here :D
Some people in past tried to slide it through, but we got some members here that most likely know the game better than Diablo 2 developers do, and none of these "hackers" ever passed by unnoticed.

Have a good time and happy slashing :)

The PvM forum is, without a doubt, the best forum on this site :P
