I really don't know where to post this, so I'll try it here.
As an old player coming back this year on d2jsp (I played a lot ~2002-2006) I have to say I'm amazed by the high activity in the scene. I honestly did not expect that. Looking at all the trades in the ladder forum at evening hours I just think "
Wow! where do all these players come from!?". There's literally thousands of players trading every day. I can't exactly recall how active the scene was back in ~2005 but I don't believe it was
that much more active. (but maybe I'm wrong?)
It also seem to be a more honest place these days, is this the case in your opinion also? I suppose this is the case, and can primarily be explained by a higher age of the typical player/trader, which naturally lead to more honest and friendly behavior. Yes, some scam threads still pop up here and there, but back in ~2005 it was pure chaos where scams existed all over the place.
This got me thinking. Sure there must be a lot of old players (like me) who either plays regularly ladder after ladder, or come back for a season after months/years of hiatus. But the high activity must also mean that there's a constant flow of new players to the game. How do people find d2 and start playing it? And do they continue? Why/why not? What's your thoughts? And how can we retain (or even improve) the general healthiness of the scene?
Other question to get discussions going:
- Is there available statistics on the activity on d2jsp (weekly/monthly/yearly)? (Would be very interesting from a strategical standpoint.)
- What do you think of the future of D2, and d2jsp?
- How important is ladder resets in your opinions? What is the ideal length of a season?
- Is the situation similar on other realms? (seen in a 10- or 20-year period)
- Are you a newbie or oldie, and how long have you played d2?
- (or If u want, come up with something related of your own to point out/discuss.)
