Is it a common strategy, when running with an organized group (i.e. ladder reset) to have a sorc who prioritizes putting points into Static Field as a main skill?

I could see it being quite effective to have a sorc standing at a safe distance to Static everything down on P8, especially when you are trying to clear as fast as possible and the whole party has no gear.

For the midegame NM, the sorc could start dumping points into Warmth/Enchant to keep helping the party. Then just respec to a normal endgame build when you get to high levels.

Was wondering if this is how good, experienced teams do it.

Last December during the reset, I did this strategy.

During normal walk, I put every points to Static Field. Since SF has no cap in Normal, basically I was the biggest damage dealer.
After maxing SF, during nightmare walk, I maxed Frozen Orb. This combo was still op.
In hell I respecd to pure fire, as we had a Blizz sorc in the team.

I did somehing like that at the last reset. I was doing normal Baal runs and put points into tele/static so i could tele np and help with the waves.
Already had tons of blizz anyway.

really bad. if you are doing a ladder reset for fresh ladder, you will have plenty of damage within the party, and most people are playing casters for damage dealers (ele dru, hdins, sorcs, trapper, java) so enchant is pretty worthless.

you only really need around 5-6 in satic.
max teleport
rest in orb/cold mastery
few into warmth if you really need it, but without a big mana pool, it won't really regen very well anyways.

It's good on reset.

Frost nova/static.

After NM a3 respec to blizz.

Basically:
10 pts static
1 pt tele
rest warmth

Frost nova for some gg crowd control while you static.

It was very fun & very worth having.

on reset i asked the 2x sorc to do either fire ball or charge bolt at frist and then resepc to pure cold sroc sooner rarther then later.
my idea was that the chars need to stand alone, we often split up in norm, one gourp in trist on group in tower. then one group in sewers one group getting ammy. etc
and not too far in the sorc needs to tele, so its really helpful for her to be able to kill by her self.

and as tehtwitchy says 5-6 points is all you would really every need. typically i only put 1 point and only use static on bosses.

but.... i guess.... maxing static and spamming just that all the time, is dead a simple build, easy, and effective.

Forgot to mention I placed #1 guardian on EhcL 2 seasons ago with a team and myself being this exact sorc
