I've seen in Sara's Rift Sin guide that BoS is used over Fade.

I understand this is done for IAS breakpoints, however where would Damage Reduction come from if using BoS over Fade?

And is Damage Reduction that important in PvM?

What alterations would be needed for gear if using Fade to reach IAS breakpoint?

Thanks for help guys!

I don't know if I can link to other forums, I'd recommend you check out Magicrectangle's Kick/Trap guide. Not to throw Shade at Sara's guide, but Magic Rectangle's is much more in-depth and flexible imo.

The first problem with using HHG+Nightwish, is that finding the base items with good rolls AND 3*cold facets is nigh impossible in single player.

Second off, the damage increase from perfect Nightwings and 3*5/-5 facets, is not that good tbh. While it raises your average orb damage from 283.5 to 368.55 (as well as the additional -15 cold res), Frozen Orb is only one of your sources of damage. Even if NW's increases your trap damage a bit, it doesn't do squat for your kicks. or your corpse explosions.

With maxed resists, your biggest threat is going to come from physical attacks. Getting close up and personal with monsters is mandatory, else we're just playing a super ineffective trap assasin  A kick assassin already requires a lot of stat points in strength and dexterity compared to other melee classes, so we don't have a big life pool to work with, so max block and Damage Reduction is incredibly useful

+35% Crushing Blow

Sara's guide is specifically for HC play, albeit it's targeted at online play, so /players 1 and trading makes everything a bit easier. That being said, you're giving up max block and a massive 35% damage reduction, in order to boost one source of damage.
+45 Strength
+30% Faster Hit Recovery
+35% Damage Reduction
+25% Increased Block Chance
+35% Faster Block Rate
+60% Cold Resist
+25% Lightning Resist
+337.5 Defense @lvl 90

vs

+2 Skills
+17-30% Cold Skill Damage
- 9-15% Enemy Cold Resistance
+10-20 Dex
+5-9 Cold Absorb
+20-30% Fire Resist
+30-40% Posion Resist
+320-420 Defense

If we take Defense and resist out of the equation:

+35% Crushing Blow
+45 Strength
+30% Faster Hit Recovery
+35% Damage Reduction
+25% Increased Block Chance
+35% Faster Block Rate

vs

+2 Skills
+17-30% Cold Skill Damage
- 9-15% Enemy Cold Resistance
+10-20 Dex
+5-9 Cold Absorb

It's already clear to me which one wins out, and that's before even considering sockets in Stormshield/Guillaumes.

My first kicksin used Fade, but it's 20 points that could've gone into Shadow Master or higher trap damage. Check out Xepolites' Assassin Kick Speed Calculator in order to find breakpoints with different slots

TL;DR, check out MagicRectangle's Kick / Trap guide, Xepolites' Assassin Kick Speed Calculator and/or my WT
