Just wondering, is there any huge benefit to it? I tried it out but it seemed pretty tedious with mobs taking a lot of time to kill.

The /players 8 command means a game with 1 player and the level of difficulty of 8 players. So, considering a "8 players" game in single player implies a high loot via any enemies, higher than a "1 player" game unlike as a real "8 players" game on Battle.net where any player can decrease the loot once he joins any public game.

Even on /p8, the more powerful builds go through mobs like a wrecking ball.
