Hi D2jsp-community,
First of all I am sorry if the topic should be elsewhere! I have made SP char on my stationary PC and I have become slightly addicted to making progress. My question is if you can copy a sp char to an external harddrive to keep ur char with u at all times on any PC? I have to use my laptop for the weekend and I need to make progress...

Yep! Just copy all the files that have your character's name in the "saves" folder.

Source: I did this a week ago and it worked.

for me the path is:
C:\Users\****\Saved Games\Diablo II

then, as leeve said, you can get all the files that are named like your char
but the .d2s file should be enough, at least for me it is.

Sorry for thread jacking but, say I wanted to take my chars off my laptop to a desktop. I would copy and paste/replace to the desktop in the same file location? Then if I wanted to move it back to my laptop after I played in the desktop I just copy and paste/replace in the same file location on the laptop?

well if the save folder is at the same location, then yes, sure
but don't forget rule#1: always back up everything

Is there a reason why it wouldn’t be? How do you back everything up?

Your files can be stored in the C:\users spot that lilith0 mentioned or directly in program files\Diablo II\Save depending on your version of windows and if you run d2 as admin

if you find a folder with .d2s files inside, it's the save folder
you back up stuff by copying and saving somewhere else
if you move your character file around, you'll eventually override the new char with the old char by mistake, so you better have a save somewhere
