I ran around the whole den twice to find him.

Two boss packs that kill my merc in about two seconds. Extra strong, stone skin, curse...This fight took me 10 minutes. Anything with those abilities or cold enchanted can give me a problem.

I need a new weapon. ALL of my gear is based around my weapon. I wear three piece sigons for the 30% IAS which means all of my other gear has to be for resists. If I get a new weapon I can change everything. Do I go back to NM meph and try to find a ribcracker or butcher's pupil or do I press forward and try to find some runes? I press forward.


There were four boss packs on the bottom of the screen before I could get to Griswold. My merc dies a lot.




First countess run. I need a couple of lem and some fal.




I found a regular thresher. 4 sockets I do insight for merc. 5 I try for fal for obedience. 6 I cry.

The damage difference between the old merc weapon and the new is dramatic. 286-897 vs 354-1630

Probably 15 runs in I get a fal. If I can find a base I'll probably go for obedience for me or my merc.

I stopped after 20ish runs. This is dangerous and my merc dies a lot. Boss packs of ghosts and archers cause problems. I still need a lem for treachery or an um for duress. I dont know what weapon I should be shooting for. I'm thinking I'll take off my MF gear and run cows for a base for obedience and an armor base. I guess.

I'd say back to nightmare Mephisto, Ravenfrost is a must for a melee char in hell. String of Ears and Guillaume's Face are GG too. He also drops Headstriker, Butcher's Pupil, lots of other useful bits like Immortal King helm/boots/belt/gloves Oh and Arreat's Face but that's a rare one.

Update:

I went back to NM meph to farm some items. After another 80-100 runs my merc had Guillaume's Face and I had a string of ears, a butchers pupil and duriels shell (for the cannot be frozen). I went back to hell and things went better. My merc died all the time but I was alright. While farming the pits however...Scooter3 died. No screenshot because I was too shell-shocked to take a pic.

This death was entirely my fault and completely avoidable. My merc died every minute or two in the pits and it was getting annoying. After his latest death I was tired of going back to town so I thought, "I'll just kill these last four skeletons before I resurrect him." It probably took 10 seconds. My life slowly draining while I took potions. The potions couldn't keep up with the damage however and by the time I realized the danger I was in it was too late.

At any point in those final 10 seconds I could have:

1) Walked away and let my health recover
2) Teleport away and let my health recover
3) Howl and let my health recover
4) Go back to town and resurrect my merc
5) Drink a full rejuv from my belt.


I had tons of time but I didn't do any of those things and I'm not sure why. Overconfidence and naivete I guess. This was not a 50 gloam insta-death. This was easily avoidable and that's what makes me mad. I was stupid.


I was feeling a bit bored with Scooter3's single target melee attack and found myself craving an aoe attack so my next char will be a sorc, a poisonmancer (never played), or a bowazon (haven't played in 15 years). Let me know if you want to follow along and I'll do another WT but maybe nobody wants to see another early newb-death.

It happens - full rejuvs come to the rescue in such situations, for sure.

Both novamancer and bowa will be a fair grind on single player, but poison necro is a real Pit wrecker with half-decent gear.

I'm a big fan of both; I'd follow whichever you made
