I always "waste" 1 pt in coldmastery aswell and usually works good enough. Not sure if this even helps tho

Frost nova lvl 6(spirit, lore and viper, +1 amu) has 13 seconds so 6.5 in nightmare and 3.25 in hell which should be sufficient.
