You need to modify the registry entry.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Diablo II]

Look for "Save Path" and modify the path accordingly and D2 should load your save files normally.

Thanks for the help but I'm very dumb and have no idea what you are talking about so I just decided to cut my losses and start again.........
