Just rolling quick C-gpt cause this thing triggered me lol. Lmk if something is wrong obv AI is often wrong about pretty much anything still.

When an item is UNIDENTIFIED, you CANNOT know if it is a failed set.

There is no mechanic, no stat, no color, no trick that lets you tell.

Not durability.
Not defense.
Not item level.
Not drop color.
Not anything.

✔ The ONLY THING you can know before identifying:
Whether a failed set is possible.

That depends on the base item.

Example:

A Crystal Sword has no set version.
→ If the game rolled “set” on that drop, then after you ID it, it will have to become a failed set (blue with 2 affixes).
→ But you cannot tell if that roll actually happened until you identify it.

So pre-ID you know only the possibility, NOT whether the item actually is a failed set.

⭐ FINAL ANSWER (short and exact)

There is NO way to know if a magic item is a failed set while it is still unidentified.
You can only know after identifying it.

If you want, I can also give you:

the full list of items that could turn into failed sets

the exact internal mechanic for when a failed set roll happens

This is wrong.

You can look at the durability. Blood Spirit usually have 20 dura, this has 40 and that's how he knows it's a failed set. Same with Hyperion Spear, it rolls 30 dura normally but this has 60. Failed set has double durability.

You really deserve a Tyrel’s might at this point..Wouldn’t you save a lot of time by skipping picking up failed unique etc. Just check if an unique is eth or not?

Awesome finds! I really appreciate the effort you put into finding that Tyrael and completing your grail. Good luck with it!

Thanks man!

I have forgotten all the tiles/map but this one gave me good vibes and memories.
Best of luck with the new map!

Already re-rolled it haha! I can't be satisfied apparently

Will 2026 be the year ?

I doubt it, but I will keep going, maybe pits all the way to 99

Sick dedication! wellplayed op

Maybe, I think when I unlock a new TC level for failed sets I stop more regularly, but as I get closer to completing a TC level, I really only see and pick up an item every say 10 games or so. It could save time for sure, but honestly, I need something else to keep me going at this point. So many items I just don't care about, need some sort of goal aside from the impossible ;)

Great motivation, keep it going! ^_^

Thanks :)
