It won’t do anything for poison damage but it’ll help with CE (50/50 fire/phys damage) if/when you need to use it for unbreakable poison immunes. Plus yeah the CB is hella good for bosses.

I’ve found Hone Sundan and Obedience are nice merc weapons for necro, though the cold damage on the latter can get annoying.

My merc already have gaze so i'm used to the cold dmg. Merc weapon is not very important then, Waheed is owning with eth insight, gaze and treachery.

Btw: I am trying the same thing for about 2-3 weeks now with a SP nec of mine: finding DW. Since the char has some playtime already, it is better geared, but not more successful until now.
