Are you refering to this:

Quote (me)

BLIZZARD
-----------
3 x 683 ( average damage ) - 50% ( cold resists ) = 1024.5 [ blizzard would round this down and you would only do 1024 damage ]

FROZEN ORB
---------------
16 x 264 ( average damage ) - 50% ( cold resists ) = 2112

If you are then that is just damage. 3 x 683 = 2049 and then we have to take half away due to resistaces to get 1024.5. The game rounds down for damage to get a final damage of 1024.

And yes, you cannot half skill a skill.

It takes weeks/months to master the aiming skills for FO. Blizzard is simply one shot in the random-- Can't really miss.

So the basic FO damage is the orb going through things icon_pointr.gif Not the shards that will explode inside the monster icon_pointl.gif A new guy would miss that 9/10 times.
So yes, for newbie MFers, I recomment blizzy o.o

When I played my blizzard sorc, far too many times I would cast it and only 1 or 0 shards would hit the monster. Its kind of a waste to cast a spell on a monster and have it do little to no damage. Even with a poorly aimed FO, you will do decent damage to that monster each and every time. I honestly feel that during the course of building the FO character, actually playing through all the acts in all the dificulties, the skill to aim the FO will be acquired.

The problem I have is that newbies tend to freak out when coming across a monster that they cannot kill. Due to the mass synergy requirement of blizzard, it does not leave itself to have a secondary skill available. With FO, you can easily pick a secondary skill to have when you come across monsters that you normally would not be able to kill with a FO.

Blizzard sorc are only useful in the way that, because of its huge damages when all synergies are put on, u can put on more mf on it, and the aim problem can be partially solved using ice blast between 2 blizz

anyway i agree with u the_morpheus, FO with dual elements is more fun and efficient for usual gameplay,
but for pure mf, i'll still use my blizz sorc

FoHydra using full tals is doing a far better job of MFing around than my old deleted blizzard sorc. The benefits with FOHydra is that I can go anywhere and kill just about anything.

I do not have a sTorch, gave to give me one?

The damages listed here from me are with my setup listed. I can update it once I get home as I have added a few charms to the mix.

Currently wearing Full tals with ptopaz in hat and armor. a stoopid 3/3 RBF cold in orb, spirit shield, chancies, 2x nagels, war travs, anni, 2x cold skillers.

Frozen orb listed damage = Slvl31 507 - 531
Cold mastery = slvl25 -143% cold resists (with RBF)
Hydra = slvl29 1139 - 1309 , still have 4 synergy points left to be placed into fireball and still need all 19 to be placed into fire bolt. Both of those are not going to happen.
