I do believe in MF breakpoints. Every other aspect of the game has breakpoints, why not MF.

I did some rough calculations once for time to find Tyraels or number of runs to find Tyraels. Essentially, you can use a drop calculator and type in the zone, monster type, and MF you have to determine drop chance. I looked at a range of 552%MF to 887%MF (I have 832%MF right now, which meets the 828%MF BP). Then, since I am a barb, I evaluated how FI% would impact the number of runs... I looked from 72 to 77%FI. I know my Pits map has about 8.2 bosses per run, I can then find the number of effective bosses I have per map when I use find item at differing values. So, for example, with 828%MF the chances of finding Tyraels in the pits from a single boss is ~1:365816. I know that based on 75%FI and 8.2 bosses/run, my effective boss count is 14.35.
So, with 828%MF Tyraels will drop ~1:365816, with 14.35 bosses/run that means it should take about 25,492 runs to find Tyraels.
How does this look in a table where MF% (y-axis) x FI% (x-axis)?
So, what does this all mean...
Well, I know based on the table above, that it would take 25,492 runs at 828%MF and 75%FI, however if I increased my MF to 847%MF keeping 75%FI then my runs would decrease to 25,405. However, if to reach that increased MF% BP my run times increased from lets say 59.75 seconds to 60 seconds then it would still be about 20 minutes faster to find Tyrael's using the old setup of 828%MF and 75%FI with a run speed of 59.75 seconds than it would to have a setup of 847%MF and 75%FI with a run speed of 60 seconds.
Food for thought.
