use hero editor and modify your char

That error happens quite often. I know I've experienced it a few times. Try terminating all instances of Game.exe in Task Manager if any, restart computer, and load up D2 again. If that doesn't work, re-install might be your option.

If you do need to reinstall, copy your Save Folder to your desktop before doing so. You can simply replace the Default Save Folder with the one on your Desktop after reinstallation is complete.

so i saved my save file un downloaded plugy & diablo then used a different downloader and re downloaded ect , got my windy back but it still wont allow me to go to act 2 same problem....

When you keep your save file and re install the game.. He's quite obviously going to run into the same problem As the problem is within the save file not within the game itself lol

I'm in the process of helping him fix this problem properly so that he doesn't follow anymore nonsense advice like this

Interestingly, the newer patches (1.14a-d) have a different character save file location. It's not in the d2 folder anymore. I know this isn't causing the issue here, but it is interesting.

No it's still in the d2 save file with plugy
