Not to sound like a broken record, but just to avoid the politics I'll start out by saying that I don't hold my views on the subject to anyone else, each person does their own thing and the diversity is great.

But yeah, by asking that question I feel like you may have misinterpreted what I meant by "legit". I don't mean "legit" as in a challenge or anything like that... I just meant legit as in no add-ons, playing the game 100% exactly as the developers intended, out of the box. It always did bug me a little bit to use LRW in SP because at the end of the day I had to make changes to my D2 folders that the developers did not intend. It felt a bit like cheating which is probably why I didn't use many on my first 3 WTs.

The thing I find paradoxical and maybe a little sad about LRW is that they allow for much more diversity in builds, but at the same time promote cookie-cutter builds by not having enough balance among them. 90% of melee-based characters are going to opt for Grief, effectively squashing creativity for half of all builds. Grief is really my main quarrel there though.

So anyways to answer your question directly, in that scenario imo the vanilla player would be playing in a more legit manner, but the LRW player would have a much greater challenge.

Oh and PS, if there were P8 online, I'd still play SP for 0 ping ^_^

Totally agree. I feel the same way it just doesn’t feel quite right when adding anything to the game in general. Even though it does make it more fun with being able to diversify builds like you said. I’ve never done a P8 wt without lrw, I did a few with plugy back in the day but it just seems to “easy” anymore. Mainly the stash. Never used anything else. Back when I did that race to 95 all we could use was lrw but without plugy it renewed an excitement in me to play the game again.

I will definitely have to try a complete vanilla to see how I like it. Not sure what character to roll with though. But again I agree with you here and I also would choose SP over bnet

So, if I don't use LRW on my wt, is that considered vanilla?? :D

/e like I have them turned on, but won't necessarily use them.

Trust me, it’s totally fine with me if you don’t like me ^_^

Oh and PS - like I said I will come back to a lightning zealer but I don’t want to use Zapp because he has already used lrw and cannot be labeled as vanilla. He’s only in nm so it’s not a big loss!

I think so? Haha like if you never use plugy or lrw throughout your entire wt then that would be vanilla, I guess it doesn’t really matter if the files are there or not if you you don’t use em

Was thinking about that for Ornn, unless I make Fort, but I can make a CoH for armor. and Shield was considering spirit for midgame, but can do with something else for sure until HoZ. Rest would be unique/craft/rares

After the discussion recently about plugy and LRW in the general chat thread, I've decided to make only Vanilla SP chars from now on. I'll be taking the LRW text file out of my D2 folders so they will no longer work.

Hypatia only uses a BO spirit on swap that I could change out for a sig shield, but she is retired anyways so I'm not worried about her.

While Hobbes did use a few LRW during the leveling process (Spirit sword, Insight on merc in NM, and ebug fort on the temporary Barb merc), he uses no LRW at all in his final build so it will not affect him when I take the LRW text out, so he will continue his quest to 99! :)

Unfortunately for Zapp, my goal for him was a dual dream setup which will no longer be possible, and without that goal in mind I just can't find the motivation to keep going with him.

I'll continue my quest to 99 with Hobbes and at some point I'll start up a new Vanilla WT to play when I'm bored of the Baal runs  I just wish that I never used the LRW in the leveling process with Hobbes so I could label him as Vanilla :P They were helpful but absolutely not required for success.

I may still go for a lightning/physical hybrid zealer aiming for Stormlash one day though :) That will likely be my paladin walk.

muling in SP : can be done without plugy
getting LRW in SP : can be done without plugy
respec'ing in SP : can be done without plugy
cheating in SP : can be done without plugy
