The name of this item is likely derived from the Chinese words "Bing Zhi Wang" (冰之王), which translates to "King of Cold".

After the discussion recently about plugy and LRW in the general chat thread, I've decided to make only Vanilla SP chars from now on. I'll be taking the LRW text file out of my D2 folders so they will no longer work.

Hypatia only uses a BO spirit on swap that I could change out for a sig shield, but she is retired anyways so I'm not worried about her.

While Hobbes did use a few LRW during the leveling process (Spirit sword, Insight on merc in NM, and ebug fort on the temporary Barb merc), he uses no LRW at all in his final build so it will not affect him when I take the LRW text out, so he will continue his quest to 99! :)

Unfortunately for Zapp, my goal for him was a dual dream setup which will no longer be possible, and without that goal in mind I just can't find the motivation to keep going with him.

I'll continue my quest to 99 with Hobbes and at some point I'll start up a new Vanilla WT to play when I'm bored of the Baal runs  I just wish that I never used the LRW in the leveling process with Hobbes so I could label him as Vanilla :P They were helpful but absolutely not required for success.

I may still go for a lightning/physical hybrid zealer aiming for Stormlash one day though :) That will likely be my paladin walk.

Why no ladder Runewords? The only reason Blizzard excluded them is to direct people to play on battle.net. They are amazingly overpowered for battle.net though. They are really powerful but not considered overpowered on /players 8. I will always use ladder runewords. Its not like these fall in your lap anyway, you actually have to grind the shit out of the hoe (LK) to build these.

Good luck on this! Could also use lidless as a bo swap!

I would enjoy following another one of those! I’d like to try one someday myself but not sure I have the time or skill to accomplish it!

I feel like the only way I can say I'm truly 100% legit is if I play the game exactly as it comes out of the box! I still am not judging those who use LRW or plugy, it's just a personal choice for me. Again, this is just my personal opinion, but the way I see it is like this: Vanilla = 0% cheating. LRW = 10% cheating. plugy = 50% cheating. Editing items or breaking your own rules = 100% cheating.

If only there was a way to play P8 on bnet.

So what do you think is more legit between the two. Vanilla on p1 bnet or lrw on P8 sp

Not to sound like a broken record, but just to avoid the politics I'll start out by saying that I don't hold my views on the subject to anyone else, each person does their own thing and the diversity is great.

But yeah, by asking that question I feel like you may have misinterpreted what I meant by "legit". I don't mean "legit" as in a challenge or anything like that... I just meant legit as in no add-ons, playing the game 100% exactly as the developers intended, out of the box. It always did bug me a little bit to use LRW in SP because at the end of the day I had to make changes to my D2 folders that the developers did not intend. It felt a bit like cheating which is probably why I didn't use many on my first 3 WTs.

The thing I find paradoxical and maybe a little sad about LRW is that they allow for much more diversity in builds, but at the same time promote cookie-cutter builds by not having enough balance among them. 90% of melee-based characters are going to opt for Grief, effectively squashing creativity for half of all builds. Grief is really my main quarrel there though.

So anyways to answer your question directly, in that scenario imo the vanilla player would be playing in a more legit manner, but the LRW player would have a much greater challenge.

Oh and PS, if there were P8 online, I'd still play SP for 0 ping ^_^
