you must focus on merc. Barb is just the support.
I could kill hell baal at lvl 84. (single player, with ladder rw cheat)
skills: you have to put 20 points to war cry (just for more time of stunning) and lot of points to battle cry, 1-2 points to itemfind also
lvl 1 Leap attack is also usefull on left click. lvl 26 battle cry: -100% defense, -50% dmg of the mosnters.
merc eq: anything you find. a non eth obedience is also enough (my merc has that. merc kills bosses, so CB is a must. forget insight)
your eq: spirit sword + rhyme shield (troll nest) + myth armor (cheap for 2 skill) + chance guard + anything you find. 2x 3 bo weapon on switch
with very low eq, my barb has 450 mana after bo (at lvl 84). one war cry needs 35 mana, battle cry needs 5 mana, leap cost 2 mana. so at the end, it is viable. however i dont remember the earlier levels. but spirit sword can be made in nightmare
