(Flat damage)*(1+%increase/100)*(1-negativeResist/100)

Ty sir!

I want to clarify one thing.

(1-negativeResist/100) means (1-(-Negative Resist)/100) = (1+the number/100)?

Say, I have -50 res, then (1+(50/100))? Or (1-(50/100)?

I think the former is correct? thx!

You’re right. With -50, your end value should be positive but before (1+(50/100)), it is (1-(-50/100)). Two negatives make a positive.

Easier way to check is that if your -resistance is greater than monster resistant, then the end value is negative but when plugged into equation it has to be greater than 1. If it was less than 1, then monster has positive value. In this case it would end up being (1.5).

Is there a website to access these formulae? Fascinating for a newbie.

I’m not sure if there’s a source with both increase spell damage and negative resistance. You can find part about resist and absorption on Arreat Summit. The formula in this post, I just put together because of knowledge of how they both work.

I found this website which includes quite a few sections displaying the formula being used, fun to see the backend of the game.

Bad at math and very tired - willing to tip some fg if someone can sort this out for me

-Let's say I do 1k-1k damage with an elemental ability at baseline.
A. Monster A has 75% resist to the ability's element.
B. Monster B has 50% resist to the ability's element.
C. Monster C has 0% resist to the ability's element.

1. In variant one I have +83% Elemental Skill Damage and -80% Enemy Elemental Resistance.
2. In variant two, I have +105% Elemental Skill Damage and -80% Enemy Elemental Resistance.
3. In variant three, I have 75% Elemental Skill Damage and -100% Enemy Elemental Resistance.

I want to know the damage outcome from each monster compared to each variant.

ex:
A ) 1:_____2:_____3:_____
B ) 1:_____2:_____3:_____
C ) 1:_____2:_____3:_____

I should have posted this earlier but in math, area of square is always greater than a rectangles area, if the distributing value is the same. For example, an area of 5x5 is 25 and 9x1 is 9(both have distributing value of 10, 5+5 and 9+1 both equal 10). By knowing this, it is easier to figure out +spell damage versus -elemental resistance which is worth more. A balance is the best because they both have diminishing returns.
