By the way, some extra fast, extra strong, cursed unique can be much more dangerous than hell ball.

Well, it's not our fault that A2 mercs are, in most cases, objectively the best merc in the game. If you're playing an elemental caster, you're going to want the benefits of Infinity at some point. If you're playing a melee character, sure you can throw Lawbringer on an A5 merc, but is that really any more interesting than Reapers on an A2 merc? Is an A1 merc with Ice more interesting than A2 Holy Freeze? If you play a melee character, sure, you can stunt yourself by not having Might aura... but why? At /p8, even with might and decrep/amp the game takes a while.

Too each their own. There's a large handful of threads here where people full-clear everything and don't rerun if that peaks your interest. You can do whatever you want.

Using a merc is for cheaters

Feel free to do a mercfree walk, but dont blame ppl for their setup, just ignore/dont read it.

For early gear make spirits, stealth, lore/peasant crown, shop for scepter with hammer/conc aura, spam hammers. And also if you think a2 mecrs are boring maybe get yourself another type merc.
Another thing that might do well without merc is sorc. You might struggle in hell maybe blizz sorc as she has good dam but you will have to skip a lot of areas. Also you probably won't fin hell baal unless you lure 2nd wave from throne room

There was a walk where a pally used his aura to buff a merc and tried to beat the game with merc only. He was the biggest cheater ever I think he was banned

Mercs are a game mechanic that the developers meant to include and it's working exactly as intended.
