Hello! From my experience, stormshield is far much better than spirit, and I was not using tal set nor any parts of it because other items worked much better for me. I have made energy shield work for me in pvm on softcore, but it's complex build, and as said above it may be disadvantage in many cases (examples: mana burn monsters or strong elemental attacks could reduce mana quickly and character with low hp could die easily). From armors that are on cold skill tree I always choose this one available on level 12, because it slows down melee attacks.

The problem with stormshield is FHR, What's your solution? I play with stormshield on my SP sorc lvl 96, 0 fhr but mb. I think spirit is better cuz of FHR.

my solution is similar to yours, 0 fhr and max block, 20% fhr is easily available on sandstorm trek boots

Stormshield is best because of DR, but as a sorc, just don't get hit.

Depends on rest of gear and charms. I think 300 mf is good enough without sacrificing speed. To couple max block with a storm shield, I favor using 25 dex shadow dancers. Helps with reaching MB and gives 30fhr. You could use fhr charms, shael in gear, ect. It really just depends on what you have available.

You could do
Wizy-50fcr
chances
viper-30
arach-20
2xfcr ring-20
shadow dancers
maras
ss
CoA (nice res, dr from helm and SS gives 50%, and it gives another 30fhr. You could do a shael for 50fhr+shadow 30=80 and use 1 fhr gc. SS will give enough str to wear it or if you want the + skills for bo and you have a 2os, then put a -15 requirement jewel.

If you use griffons, you can swap out wizy for hoto or occy (depending on if you want more mf, i prefer hoto) and use nagel rings, just make sure you keep 117% mf

There is always a way to get all the "basics" when building a char, that is, resistance, fhr, fcr, damage, mf, etc.

The foundation to creating any character is what is the intended purpose. I would build a pvp light sorc differently than a pvm Chaos-Baal sorc, and differently from a mf sorc. Once you find the purpose of the character you're making, then you can tweak and balance the gear to suit your needs.

Yeah, shadow dancers seems like a good choice, one of the few items i've never found in d2...

No dancers? then...You could do
Wizy-50fcr
blood fists
viper-30
arach-20
2xfcr ring-20
travs
maras
ss
shako/griffons/Coa

Swap chances for blood fists, and dancers for travs. Balances out with mf and fhr. There are always options.

mara's(I want a fcr amu)
travs
ss
enigma

single player
