Looks like your video was not p64 to me, I tried it and stuff doesnt fall at all that fast :p try again with players64 (no space)

AFAIK it happened when HP exceeded a pre-defined value, due to high player settings, so at a certain point it became negative -> boss died from one shot.
I experienced this funny feature during my 1.07 walk. P8 Hell Duriel and Mephisto was killed by casting one Static Field. And if I remember correctly, I abused this bug in 1.09b as well, when I was playing with that patch in 2001. I made tons of Meph runs with my SP sorceress, leveled to 96 from P64 Meph runs. Good old days, I was such a noob, I did not know that Meph can not drop Arkaines Valor. :D

The beginning of the video the monsters were probably already spawned on p24, but by the end they were spawning on p64. That’s definetly the correct way of typing it, I was just killing decently fast because my damage is high as explained in my last post

so I still have not found a unique or set item yet O_o
despite being on players 25 most of the time, and using 2 nagel rings.

I took a video of my andariel kill. I tried to do it on players 64 but I had already walked in on players 8 so most of the area is p8, I think the ones surrounding andy and possibly andy herself were on p64 though.
although Joey mentioned they are 1 hp on p64? idk lol here's the kill though!

coming straight from playing version 1.00, I gotta say.
1.09 drops soooooo many more mana potions.
I mean I realized immediately in 1.00 that mana pots were rare but now I conditioned myself never to use them and now I have 2 pages full in my stash lol

Nah, Andariel wasn't P64. :P The map is way too tiny, she immediately spawns when you enter it.
The radius for monster spawning is actually pretty large, many screens far, so if you want stuff to spawn at a certain P#, you'll want to be way ahead of it.



Just sharing my thoughts on the 1.07+ overflow bug. :P

The actual overflow happens because in 1.07 they changed the calculation responsible for scaling monster health according to player number.
Pre-1.07 it was just a simple (health*player_number), which afaik would never cause a problem, but in 1.07 they changed it to multiply health by a big number, before dividing by 100.
Stuff like health and damage is multiplied by 256 for increased precision, while the result is typically stored as a signed 32-bit integer, so if the value exceeds 2,147,483,647 then it will roll over to -2,147,483,648, and then continue going up again.

Bosses are obvious contenders to challenge that maximum value.
Diablo Hell for example with a base of 67,108, multiplied by 256 makes 17,179,648, multiplied by 525 (the P8 health bonus) is 9,019,315,200. Well.. that's not exactly gonna fit.
So in stead, the value will just keep looping between the min and max until it's been satisfied.
In this case it will end up at 429,380,608, which then is divided by 100 to make 4,293,806, which is then added to the monster's base P1 hitpoints to get 21,473,454. Divide by 256 to get ~83,880 hitpoints.
So even though not negative, his life should be in the hundreds of thousands, but in stead ends up being only a few dozens of thousands.

I assume they changed the calculation in 1.08 or 1.09 so that the overflow doesn't happen (at P8 and below) anymore?


Anyway, I remember destroying bosses in 1.07 with a single Static Field, so there's probably more to it than the overflow itself.
For example, I don't think Diablo will ever have negative health, and neither will Mephisto.
Duriel should have negative health on P3 and P8, but not other P#. Mephisto's lowest should be ~4,930 at P7, while Diablo's lowest should be ~16,772 at P6.
So I wonder what causes those one-shots.. ^_^

If I somehow guess one of those correctly, could you give the gold to someone who is down on luck instead of me? That is if I guess right. Maybe someone who was scammed a little gold or someone new to the site trying to get something for online play. I know there has to be new members joining who are honest but don't have a collection of items to make much profit off of. I still remember a player during 1.09 that had an expensive barbarian and he would let me join the games to follow him and he would drop all kinds of goodies to help build my character since I was fairly young and couldn't afford Ith items and other top tier items back then. I remember the nice feeling it gave and I enjoy others feeling that helping hand.
