Because String of ear comes with 15 MDR, which is very useful in Tristram (and in pvm in general).
The additional leech is a good thing.
Notice that by switching BotD for Grief, you will gain life leech when life tap is on (thanks to better damage).

Battle cry is precisely used in the eventually where your Life tap has ended.
Target defense is destroyed, chance-to-hit goes up to ~ 50% (don't forget they block half of your attacks), and Life tap is cast more quickly.

On the contrary, the use of Rising sun is important if you want a really high kill speed (that's not a real concern, all you usually want is a new torch without dying).
The reason is you can now use Amplify or Decrepify to destroy Uber's physical resistances, instead of Life tap.
But some people here misunderstood me : I'm not advising to use it, just saying it's an option.
