This is a good explanation. I usually MF on p8 to give myself the "best" chance per run of finding good items. I know speed>, but it's one more way to make the WTs we do more challenging as well.

p3 - 1:992
p8 - 1:968

Bosses usually don't need p8 to always drops 6 items (maximum item drops) that why the odds are so similar.
Mephisto have like 95% of dropping 6 items in p3, 100% chances in p5+, so the difference is almost negligible.
For Diablo and Baal is the same than mephisto, with p3 you almost have 6 drops guaranteed, need p5 to always have 6 drops, for andariel and duriel, p5 almost give you maximum drop, but this time you need p7 to have 100% of the time the maximum drops, but again the difference between p5 and p7 is very small.
