Is the amount of drops gained worth going through the game with players set to 8? I very frequently see this on progress threads

Not worth it unless you do lowerkurast the time it take just to kill act boss on p8 to get shittier drops than p1 isn't worth it.

p8 makes the game more difficult, drops are better, and xp is better. Most people find this is the only "fresh take" on a 16 year old game. I find it quite enjoyable.

I'm curious behind the reasoning for you thinking p3 is the best for mf.

Using a drop calculator you can see the there are certain "breakpoints" so to speak for increased drop rates. For example a drop calc would show that p1 has the same drop rates as p2. Only when you go up to p3 do the drop rates increase. The drops rates seem to change at p3, p5, and p7. Meaning p1-p2 are the same, p3-p4 are the same, p5-p6, and p7-p8. The xp from monsters and life/dmg etc of the monsters I guess would still increase with each single increase in player setting, but according to the drop calcs, the drop rates do not.

There is a larger increase in drop rates between p1 and p3 than there is between any other immediate breakpoint increase such as p3 to p5 or p5 to p7. So it would stand to reason that you are making "the most" out of your time by killing mass monsters at a faster speed on p3, rather than taking longer to kill stuff at p7-p8. Ofc this all goes out the window if you can 1-hit everything at p7-8, but I don't think that is the case for most WTers. As long as you are 1-hitting everything, the higher player setting the better. But if you could be killing faster, I would imagine that p3 is the best. It's the same idea as stopping your MF% at an amount that still allows you to kill things quickly.

This is a good explanation. I usually MF on p8 to give myself the "best" chance per run of finding good items. I know speed>, but it's one more way to make the WTs we do more challenging as well.

Edit: according to Silospen, if you are trying to find Arach from Hell Meph with 250 MF, drop odds are as follows:

p3 - 1:992
p8 - 1:968
