! its way more honest to just tell me "if you dont pay for the game, you cant play it", than telling me how the game is free but making all kinds of paywalls, and then exploiting the tendency of the brain to defend the product you willingly gave money for (because you think you did it willingly) and turning you into a whiteknight poe defending zombie thats the first to say HYPE whenever they release literally anything, and the first to attack anyone who attacks the personality cult of the almighty god who made the game
and dont take that as an insult, i have nothing personal against you, every normal brain works that way
the mechanism is well known, basically it comes down to, if you want an unknown person to be friendly to you and you have little time to know that person, its better to ask him/her FOR help than offer help or gifts
because that way his/her brain starts to think "hmm i am probably friendly with this person since he asks me for help"
tldr: the game is NOT free. anyone with basic psychology knowledge knows that, it just exploits your brain so you think it is
many game developers use that business model BECAUSE IT WORKS. even without making a paywall it eventually works. although poe has an actual paywall (stash tabs). try to play without those and see what happens. so no, poe isnt free
also its not even growing, its too cluttered for new players to get into it, so more players is leaving than is starting it!
