hello,
i got this game yesterday and im stuck around lvl 47. ive hit part 2 but now im at a loss.... everything 1 shots me.

im following a build from POEbuilds for a cyclone mara but right now i just cant seem to get further, is it always this hard? am i doing something wrong?

More than likely

buy some leveling uniques for a hand full of chaos, get your ele res to at least 50+ each and you should be fine

you are definitely doing something wrong, but that's pretty standard if this is the first time you are playing

game is not forgiving
you will die alot
but that sounds extreme

tbh ur gear is prob shit and u are prob awful resists

Make sure you continually have your elemental resistances at 75*
Chaos is important somewhat, late game and when your more experienced is when I'd suggest building it up aswell.

Grab a goldrim leathercap with 40 all ele res roll and some other leveling unique items like others have stated and you should be good for a bit. Kitava will reduce your resistances each time you defeat her for for the first time, she has 2 phases.

Go to your hideout and craft resists onto your armor/weapons. 75 is cap

to be honest the guy who does POEBUILDS is pure shit. id suggest going on the offical forums and finding a new guide

Yeah there are too many mechanics you have to take into account

You should have around 2K Life and 50% dmg red as marauder (keynode) on the way to duelist
