I managed to snag a legacy baron with 40str. I read zombie has been nerfed several times. Is it still a viable option or only as meatshield?

it will shit on all content even in league, so yes still viable, it's just not godmode invincible anymore, you have to rub 2 brain cells together to play it now.

Is this the best 6link for phys.dmg? Or should i take 1 out for freeding frenzy? Or empower 4?

empower 4 with a +3wep is bis. because you will get level 7 empower and like lv 31 raise zombie or w/e it is, and that will boost base dmg more than brutality will in the long run.

wep should be something like +1 all gem +2 support gem +100%+ minion dmg or +1 fortify if you aren't using AG with kingmaker, minion attack speed/cast speed.

I just logged on my account. Checked out my SSF metamorph necro and it turns out I have an incursion armor with vit/life%/42str/res and I crafted +1 number of zombie/skellie wich is now legacy mod. Nice surprise

Link freeding frenzy on your golems / animate guardian and it will give the buff to everyone.
