when someone invests in something, he wants it to pay off, and if he feels it doesnt, he is more likely to lie to himself than to just leave
same as a gambler who lost 1k $ and just cant leave the table anymore
in poes case, due to business model you are made to feel that you gave the money because you chose to, rather than having been forced to pay for the game. this makes you feel much more like an investor than a customer
so you are more likely to defend every fuckup and even give more money than leave the entire thing. also people who have paid for the game tend to not see the bad things and whiteknight, unlike those who didnt pay. that was actually proven
Hereso if you do a standard chi square test that you can find online with those results, you get that there is a statically significant difference between answers of paid and non-paid customers with a probability of over 95% (actually > 99% if you dont use the yates correction, and honestly fuck yates correction anyway) that money spent influences your view of the game, it seems to trigger a psychological bias that people cant get out of easily. thats why they stay at the table even after the loss has been quite significant, they cant see it
! and intelligence doesnt seem to affect it, just your personality and the amount of money you spent on the game. that is why there is almost no non-paying customers anymore, they werent locked in by the confirmation bias, so they saw the game is shit and just left
and that is why the business model poe uses is disgusting to me
